A CLARION TUBE RADIO STORY
Here are a few "from start to finish" pictures taken during Gary's
restoration of a Clarion Tube Radio.
This is the radio when we got it:

That's nothing!
Look, here she is stripped almost completely naked -
and she exposes yet another side of her bad bakelite self:
Gary made a piece to fit the gaping hole...
Then he kinda' thought fixing this part might help:

AND, believe it or not, this is the same radio:

(Not too bad, huh?)
FYI: Our buddy, Bryan "The Wizard" Tennyson of Meridian, Mississippi,
now owns this radio and we're proud that he decided to add it to his collection!

CROSLEY DASHBOARD SURVIVES SECOND SUICIDE ATTEMPT!!!
The image below was taken after Crosley's first attempted suicide (he jumped out of a USPS delivery truck travelling down a residential street at nearly 18 MPH!): Though Crosley had undergone hours of emergency reconstructive surgery, he was soon basking in the sun (curing). However, it was during this curing process that suicidal thoughts returned and overwhelmed Crosley. Wearing a bright yellow cloak (of primer), Crosley jumped from safety and fell 8 feet to the ground below. The impact was devastating... As can be seen in the following images:
Crosley was kept in a state of suspended animation for almost 8 months... Unfortunately, some of the broken parts disappeared while in the suspended animation chamber, but Gary fabricated the missing pieces. The following picture shows the repaired case, primed and ready for paint: | Finally, here's the radio, painted and reassembled: And sold to Stela de Silva, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as a gift for her very lucky husband, Carlos Alberto Thank you, Stela! F.Y.I., Carlos is a television and radio sports broadcaster in Rio de Janeiro: | | |

RICK BOTTI'S 1938 TROY MODEL 79 Just 8 days after our web site was on-line, Rick Botti of Fremont, CA sent us his Troy case to be refinished. It had some deep, dark stains on the top as well as some pretty deep scratches, but, thank goodness, the wood was otherwise in good shape. The following pictures were taken during various stages of the refinishing process: Eight days later, the finished case was on a FedEx truck heading back home. Rick sent us the following photos which show the radio reassembled and on display at his home: (Isn't that a gorgeous radio?) Rick sent us another smaller Troy cabinet (Model 45) to refinish. Here's how it turned out: ABSOLUTELY DROP DEAD BEAUTIFUL!!! (We're so jealous!) CONGRATULATIONS, RICK! THANKS FOR TRUSTING US WITH YOUR RADIO'S. WE APPRECIATE YOUR BUSINESS! Well, we just might have to open a "Rick Botti" page real soon because Rick sent us another cabinet: This is Rick's wonderful 1938 G.E. Model F-63 Someone tried to bring some life back into the case years ago by applying some lacquer - with a paint brush. Unfortunately, they didn't really know what they were doing. While Gary was busy with the cabinet, Rick sent the chassis to our buddy, Bryan "The Radio Wizard" Tennyson in Meridian, Mississippi for repair. Rick sent us the following picture showing the radio fully reassembled: Another beauty, Rick!!! (I just love the shape of this radio!) |

Doctor Dan in PA is now the owner of this beauty!
And another...
Here's a 1938 Emerson model AC205 that we purchased on eBay:

The veneer was in terrible shape, so, Gary replaced it:
And here's how it turned out:

Pretty cool, don't you think?
